BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN PAC ENDORSE CLINTON/GORE TICKET July 28, 1992 The Business and Professional Women PAC voted unimously to support the Clinton Gore ticket at their Convention in Minneapolis today, making the presidential endorsement the PAC's first-ever in its 75 year history. Hillary Clinton accepted the endorsement on behalf of her husband after her address to 7,000 BPW members. "BPW/USA is the voice of working women and we vote," said BWP PAC chair Mariwyn Heath. "Ours is a moderate voice in politics. We are secure in who we are and we work hard to make steady legislative progress, bill by bill. This political action committee looked at the voting records of the candidates, their vetoes and the power that they use for and against women, and took this bold step to endorse the presidential ticket of Bill Clinton and Al Gore." Four Republican and three Democratic members sit on the BPW PAC. The BPW, which represents women from every Congressional district in the country, is an officially bi-partisan but traditionally Republican oriented organization. Currently more than half of it's 100,000 members are Republican. "The endorsement by the Business and Professional Woman really demonstrates broad-based support for the Clinton/Gore ticket," Hillary Clinton said. "The women here today understand that we must go beyond politics as usual in order to change this country. The BPW endorsed the Clinton/Gore ticket because the agenda they propose is good for all Americans, including women." The Business and Professional Women works to promote full participation, equity and economic self-sufficiency for working women around the country. The organization monitors federal legislation that affects working women including: pay equity, violence and abuse against women, reproductive freedom and affordable health care. # # #
