HOWARD DEAN

(By Damian Carroll, Sung to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean.”)

It was quite an impressive sight, for a Wednesday night
A hundred volunteers crammed in tight, seeking the one
Who could be, nominee, in ’04
He was from Burlington
Former doc, Democrat, anti-war

He told us “My name is Howard Dean,” from the TV screen
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of seeing the one
Who could be, president, in ‘04

People always told me, be careful how you vote
Just play along with the DLC…
But Wednesday night at Meet-up, the room was filled with hope
We logged on to the blog, and started to believe, hey

Howard Dean was Vermont’s Governor
Now he’s the man progressives favor to run
Against the Bushes’ favorite son
He’s pro-choice and pro-gun, got rights for gays and lesbians

The pundits said he could never win, there was negative spin
Then second quarter results came in – we were on top
Meet the Press – a success. (Whod’ve guessed?)

So take my strong advice
And remember to go donate twice (donate twice!)

Now no one doubts this campaign will last, up to Boston Mass
We’re building fast for the final push – beating George Bush
Give him hell, say farewell, in ’04.

People try to tell you, your vote ain’t worth a dime
And liberal is a dirty word
But we can change our nation, one voter at a time
We want our country back -- in case you haven’t heard, hey

Howard Dean was Vermont’s Governor
Now he’s the man progressives favor to run
Against the Bushes’ favorite son

He’s the favorite to run
Against George Bush the Son....

It was irrational exuberance on my part. NOT!

I'm not surprised that I was a little optimistic. But I am astounded that it turns out I wasn't wildly optimistic.

Can you imagine? 100,000 meetup members!!! we were sitting at 20k not too long ago wondering if wed break 50!
