Confederate flag, affirmative action, and Medicare will be the three things that cause dust-ups tonight - I'm betting the real Democrat/new Democrat argument is finally put to bed, and Medicare will just be a blip, but the flag and AA will be brought up again and again - if Al's got something to chew on it, he's going to chew loudly. I hope our guy's ready with a good answer, because Al has the potential to do a bitch-slap (even if he's wrong).

OT: i just got back from voting here in arlington, texas. i was wearing my daen button (of course) and when i was signing in the precinct chair said "i like your button". so of course i told him that we were having a meetup tomorrow night, gave him the details, and gave him my button. =)

Dean did a good job defending himself when ganged-up on. But I am so disgusted by the rest of the field that I really don't know if this is even my party anymore. I think I'm going to officially call myself an independent from now on. An independent for Dean, but not a Democrat. I hate the Democrats.

The Confederate flag to many Southerners is a symbol of the poor whites who gave their lives defending their homeland during the civil war. There were many aspects to the Civi War that had nothing to with slavery and racism. I am glad that the North won, but I maily blame the rich planters for starting this war, not the poor soilders who gave their lives. A famous example of this was General Robert E. Lee who was against succession, freed his own slaves, and was opposed to slavery. The only reason that he fought for the South was that he could not draw a sword against his homeland. This is similar to Iragis who were not fans of Saddam but feel that the US is illegally occupying their country. I think that Gov. Dean is 100% right to point out how the white and black working class have been divided and now must unite against the rich. One more thing about the flag; it did not become a racist symbol untill extremist Klansman perverted that symbol for their own purposes.
