Actually, I saw Jimmy Carter on CNN during the Florida fiasco, and he said that his organization could not supervise elections in the US, because one of their basic requirements is that you have a uniform voting standard for the whole country. hamletta | Email | Homepage | 11.07.03 - 1:43 pm | #

why isnt mcauliffe addressing diebold? or working to protect our votes?
why arent the other candidates talking about republican voting machines as well? who knows what a united voice on this issue will affect.
imagine if the reverse of this situation existed. with dems trying to disenfranchise republicans. would ed gillespie and tom delay be quiet about it?
did you see this about kentucky's poll watchers?

I can't hammer on this hard enough.
WRITE your congressman. Ask him/her to cosponsor Rep. Rush Holt's Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act, HR 2239. This act will require a voter verifiable, auditable paper copy of every ballot cast, and that machine source code be open for public inspection. It already has 65 cosponsors. It needs to move out of committee, and to have companion legislation introduced in the Senate.
This is critical. Ask your Senators to introduce a companion bill. If your Senator is Republican, remind him about fairness in elections, and that a deficiency that may benefit his party this year, can work in his opponent's favor next year.
We need to get the voting machine problem fixed, and soon, or all our work here may be for naught. tencentlife | Email | Homepage | 11.07.03 - 8:15 pm | #
