We're with you Dana! Jebediah's out back in the freezing cold with his musket cocked and ready to go. He can't wait for Florida (wait 'til he sees the sites on South Beach!)

I don't just want this so-called President sent to Crawford, Texas. I want to see him at The Hague.

Beautiful, Dana! I wish I could write like that.

P.S.
I want to see him in the Hague, too. Now we know why he wouldn't sign the war crimes treaty.

It seems to me that you guys are saying that since Dean is raising most of his money through small contributions that he isn't beholden to special interests.

But the rest of the candidates seem to be. I don't see how this changes the Democratic Party. And if the internet model does profoundly change the system, would it not have the same effect on the Republicans?

"In the next year we will either become a nation of one man, one vote, or become a nation of one dollar, one vote."

This country has always been based on the fact that individuals could influence the country by not only their vote, but also their dollars. So whether we are talking about 200 years, 2 years ago, or 20 years from now, that will be true. It's a simple fact in my mind that capitalism works in large part because of democracy and democracy works because of capitalism. They mutual strengthen each other.

chad, you raise a good point and here's my thoughts. essentially, i thinnk that if we prove we can raise that kind of money from the people, and if we win the election, then future candidates will use our fundraising model, which will change the system.

of course i'm being idealistic but a girl can dream, right?

Chad, capitalism doesn't work because of democracy. Nor the reverse. Capitalism has always worked just fine, long before anything like democracy ever raised its hoary head to stand in the way, as indeed it is the only thing that ever has. And I think it might be just a bit presumptuous to tell socialist democracies that they don't have a government that represents their people as well as ours does.

Money has always spoken loudest, in every country that has the stuff. And anyway, who says capitalism works?

We like our system of government, but we shouldn't forget that it isn't the only one that works. By keeping our minds open, we could learn a thing or two by watching some of the others.
