I live in NY - The Village Voice already printed a list of organizations to contact if you want to protest during the conventions. This is going to be huge. Plus, the GOP (DeLay, principally) wants to use a cruise ship as the GOP homebase during the Convention, which would take lots of money away from the hotels and restaurants that are hurting in NYC. The situation still hasn't improved since 9/11 - we are still hemmoraging jobs, taxes are up all over the city, and much of our money is going toward everyday security, since the Feds refuse to reimburse us for security money). There could be more protests, just because of the cruise ship idea (if it goes through).

This could turn ugly for us Dems - Americans like to rally around the President, and if they see too much protesting, there could be a backlash against the protesters. We must be sure to use the NYC Convention wisely, to our benefit. Now the best way to get that done, I don't know. Any thoughts?

I think Dean will rap up the nomination early and that will be a plus. I contend the winner of the primaries will be the next president.
It's going to be like the Celtics when they knew they were getting Bird a year in advance. Everybody in Boston knew there would be a return to glory.

I think the LA Times scenarios discussed here are far-fetched and not based on serious analysis. With all the super-delegates, who have a strong incentive to see a nominee chosen before the convention, we're not going to see a brokered convention.

i must agree with gabriel (hey gabriel! *waves*). a few weeks ago i asked joe trippi point blank if he thought we'd see a brokered convention and he said no. i'd trust his judgement on this one, as he's got much more experience in this field than i do.
