thank you, Anna.

and in honor of my friends...

Russ, Carrey, Jim, Mark, Dan, Tommy Stephanie and unfortunately many more.

But especially to Russ, the person who was probably most important to me in terms of "waking me up" to political reality and shaping my views: my friend, I miss you more than words can say.

xo

you're welcome scott.
i wonder how many of us have lost friends to this terrible disease. i can remember a time, many years ago, when i didn't know anyone who was infected (and if i did, they hid their status). then there was brent. he was the first person i knew who died of AIDS-related symptoms. soon after brent, there was danny, and then michael. right now most of my friends are negative, although i know of two very young ones (21) who've recently been diagnosed.
one day i hope that we live in a world where this disease (and others, such as cancer) is eradicated and there are no more AIDS orphans or grim statistics about infection rates.

you know, it's odd -- i got my start in politics as an AIDS activist, and then I moved on to other things, as it was just too depressing.

i appreciate being reminded of my roots and my values.

and my friends.
