Is Mr. Dean going to also break up the one-sided messages we get from CNN, ABC, NBC, or CBS?

Thanks,
Randy

I second that: Dean rocked last night. He's come a long way from the SC debate. That format was good for him because he was synergizing with the crowd (most of them). They were cheering and were largely sympathetic.

I especially liked his response to the question on whether the Republican party has divided us by race. An emphatic: "Yes!". The questioner threw a batting practice fast ball to the Governor who knocked it straight out of the yard.

One question - why did CM get booed? My wife came into the room and I missed it!

I was largely impressed, but he seemed to stumble when Matthews boxed him in on the right to work issue. He didn't seem polished or ready for this, and he couldn't say what he really believed without offending the unions. How will he fare if Gephardt hits him with this in a debate?

Dean was very much on message, and drew a lot of energy from the audience. Matthews kept trying to trip him up, tried to play a poor man's Tim Russert, and just proved what a poor man he was (although he did keep the show moving).

Instead of comparing Dean to perfection, which doesn't exist, compare him to the folks he's running against. He stacks up well, overall.

Is there any chance they'll post video of it on DeanTV? I missed it. No cable. Glad to hear it went so well.

Jumbo! Long time, no see man! (or maybe it was just me). Good to "see" you anyway!
Sadly, I don't think NBC provides a video archive. I already checked the Harvard one. It could turn up on DeanTV, tho...?

Last night ROCKED. I have never smiled as much during a Dean TV appearance as last night. He's hitting his stride, that's fersher.

DEAN: Iran is a more complex problem because the problem support as clearly verifiable as it is in North Korea. Also, we have less-fewer levers much the key, I believe, to Iran is pressure through the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is supplying much of the equipment that Iran, I believe, most likely is using to set itself along the path of developing nuclear weapons. We need to use that leverage with the Soviet Union and it may require us to buying the equipment the Soviet Union was ultimately going to sell to Iran to prevent Iran from them developing nuclear weapons. That is also a country that must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons much the key to all this is foresight. Let’s act now so we don’t have to have a confrontation which may result in force, which would be very disastrous in the case of North Korea and might be disastrous in the case of Iran.

Someone needs to inform Howie that the Soviet Union does not exist anymore. But yeah, the country selling Iran nuclear equipment really is someone we can trust to pressure diplomatically.

Also, it would be nice if Dean didn't come out and endorse the silencing of political view different than his own. Oh yeah, he was joking. He just wants to make the rules so by happenstance those people have to reorganize. Fitting.

MATTHEWS: Is there any way to reduce the hostility between East and West, the hatred that’s growing toward us from the East?
DEAN: Yes, treat people with respect and they will treat you with respect. And that’s in short commodity.
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

Bush has it all wrong; we need to RESPECT al-Qaeda.

DEAN: I hate right-to-work laws.
And let me tell you why it’s OK to be forced to join a union. The union is out there negotiating for your wage increases. Why should you get a free ride? Why should you should be able to go to work for that company, get the same benefits as everybody else who paid their union dues and you paid nothing? That’s why I’m against right-to-work laws.
MATTHEWS: OK.
DEAN: But I do believe it’s important for states to be able to make their own laws.
MATTHEWS: You understand why a libertarian would disagree with you, right? A libertarian would think they had a right, he or she, to work where they can do the job.
DEAN: Yes, but why should they-but why should they get the benefits of everybody else who is paying dues and get a free ride?

MATTHEWS: Because it’s a free country.

Forced? Like the forced marriages in the countries that we should RESPECT? hmmm

I was disappointed that he seemed to avoid answering a few questions from the audience. One in particular was about whether or not he would honor spending limits against his opponents in the democratic primaries. Did anyone else sense that he just avoided answering the question???

Craig

The better question is: What questions (if any) DID he (adequately) address?

Funny (okay not really funny - more like, sickening) how democrats (hypocrats) like to say they are for "diversity", when it is obvious they want to STOP any and all ideological diversity in the media.
According to these arrogant uber-libs, mainstream liberal media control and bias is fine and dandy.
(We all know liberals control the media- ABC, CBS,NBC, CNN, Newsweek, Time, NY times, LA Times, et al.) with theri constant editorials masquerading as news... YET one little right-of-center media outlet (which provides some diversity) FOX News - needs to be stopped.

Scary stuff.

The left likes to refer to Bush as Hitler. This is a severe case of projection as the uber-libs are the real Nazis.

Deanbots rise up and take over!

yeah- Dean was in top form! Stop media diversity. Free speech is only for uber-libs!

Deanbots rule!

"Deanbots rise up and take over"

From your keyboard to God's ears!
Heh.

"Soviet Union" four times in one speech?

Nice job Deanbots!

The Infidel has spoken - back to your mindless sheeple fest.

Former Vermont governor Howard Dean has also implicitly sought to link Bush with the Taliban, telling a joke earlier this year in which he said, "Title IX is under attack by this administration and I think if one of us doesn't win, next thing girls won't be able to go to school in America, you watch."

What do you expect from someone who is offended by the implication of being unsupportive of the war, yet explicitly equivocates Bush with the Taliban?

"equivocates Bush with the Taliban"?

You need to consult a thesaurus.

Notice the line of attack from the trolls. Dean said "former Soviet Union" most times, but failed to (in the transcript) a few times.

He spoke of building peace in the Middle East, and the trolls say he's for smooching Al Qaeda.

They twist, they squirm, they lie. And as they do so, good Americans die.

Don't forget that. It's the trolls (even here) who keep Bush in power. He didn't get there by himself, or by accident.

It's the lies, the twisting of the truth, the mealy-mouthed bullying (on this thread) we have to beat next November.

For every troll message here, let's send a message back with hard work and outreach.

Right on, Dana!

It's too bad that there are all these trolls, I was looking for someone that could actually debate instead of regurgitating what they heard somewhere else.

like this?

eeek! Free speech is only for liberal elites! Stop Rush, he has no right to say such things! The Evil satan troll must be stopped!

Go Deanbots USA!

folks, these are just a taste of the attacks that are going to happen. like dana said, lies lies lies.

the liberal media is a myth. if there was such a thing as the liberal media, then the katrina leung scandal, the plame leaker in the white house, bush's 16 words lie, neil bush's deals with the chinese, and the kidnapped afghanis at gitmo would all be front page news. the right wingers control the media. they control the talk radio, they control the mass radio (think clear channel and all it's "pro-bush" rallies from the spring and summer), they control cable news (does anyone really think cnn is liberal?), hell they control everything but NPR. period.

and it's incredibly hhypocritical of these trolls to attack dean for his slip of the tongue (SU gaffe) considering bush's notorious bastardisation of the english language (think "nu-kyoo-ler" or the fact that he couldn't name world leaders when he was running for president in 2000). but i won't be a hypocrite. dean said "former soviet union" several times and he messed up when he dropped the "former" but SO WHAT? he'd already correctly stated the facts and i don't hold that against him.

wow, it must be hard to be a hard core right winger nowadays. everything is so messed up and since the republicans control the government they don't have anyone to blame but themselves. so the trolls are grasping at straws. they are desperate to attack dean. hell, even faux news last night was defending dean (it was mara liasson and mort kondrake on brit hume's show; they defended dean quite well and i was very surpised). and so was cnn! on lou dobb's show, they talked about dean's comments about breaking the media near-monopolies and one of the ladies (who works for AOLTimeWarner) actually said "where was he when we needed him two years ago"?

the end is nigh for the bush Badministration. Less than 340 days to go! WOOHOO!

All I know is the ONLY way Dean will get the voters who really don't want to vote for Bush on his side is in direct debates. I hope they do at least 2 and the american public will see what an empty suit Bush really is.

It's obvious foreign policy can trip Dean up... but only when they ask specific, numbers questions. His philosophy is what counts and I hope he learns to go back to that as soon as possible when answering these questions.

Is anyone going to watch Wes Clark next week? That should be painful.

zeccardi, i'm going to watch it. i'm sure clark will do really well on the foreign affairs questions but i'm sure his domestic policy answers will suck some air out of that room.

"let them do the software in india; we'll do other things" - wes clark

How are actual quotes lies? Amazing.

Bush calls Dem. Pres. candidates unsupportive, its a shameful attack. Curiously, the Dem. 9 sit around for over an hour and harp on Bush, for free, constantly in those "debates".

What's more, Dean is ANGRY that Bush insinuates he's unpatriotic, but is on record that the next step in Bush's plan is Taliban-like rule.

If asking HTF can you make these positions stand up is trolling, then coupled with the entusiasm for breaking up "media conglomerates" that by some amazing coincidence disagree with your politics, you can understand why you come off as ignorant, arrogant frauds.

That's why your party does not want Dean to win. Well, one of the reasons.

trolls, huh??? well i'm one troll who is for dean's cut and run strategy. we need to move our troops to the soviet front to stop the red menace. as for lies, the only lies i hear come from the truth twisting left. no liberal media???? that is the biggest one yet. the left is inhabited by pseudo intellectuals whop think they know more than everyone else. guess what, most americans where awakened by 9-11 and won't be herded up like the sheep they used to be. dean will be trounced in '04. bet on it.

*were (troll typo)

oh yeah, let us not forget honest bill clinton. rofl. you libs are a joke. bush's lies. lmaooooooo. hey diana, why dont you come back and post on your on site again. we could use some more good old fashioned liberal name calling. calling bush a nazi is great but uh, aren't you guys part of the though police. hmmmm, thats as close to a nazi as it gets.
