Boswell is a fat wind bag Kennedy wanna-be. He's my Congressman and you can bet whoever runs against him will have my full support, time wise and finance wise. Kevin Schmidt | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 2:04 pm | #

Love the post and sentiment, but let's take a step back and focus on a few points -
1) Don't get cocky.
2) It ain't over until it's over.
3) Dean's the frontrunner, but that really is just virtual & untangible until caucus voting starts.
4) No matter what the polls and pundits say, we must continue to look at ourselves as the underdogs and continue on as so, but we are allowed to acknowledge our progress.
Anyways, what I really like about the whole Boswell thing is that it is taking the makeup of Congressional politics outside statelines. We are even more a community. pfb | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 2:12 pm | #

Great analysis, Dana. This means more than generating support in Iowa, or helping Boswell keep his seat. It's that it shows what we have accomplished, and how much power we have. And about intimidation - I snap my fingers, and look what we can do.
Dean just dunked on his opponent's head while his next rival (Bush) watches from the stands. G Spot1 | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 2:51 pm | #

Actually our letters are having an effect. In out December Meetup Host teleconference call Burlington said that when their Iowa campaign staff are greeted at the doors by those who have received our hand written letters, they don't have to work too hard to get these undecided voters support for the Gov.
The key to Dean's success is the diverse tactics he is using to win not only the Prez nomination but start planning ahead to build a Congress that will support his/our policies.
Helping Boswell was a brillant stroke -- and a fatal one for Gephardt, Kerry, Clark, and Edwards -- that will not only help Dean win Iowa but set the stage to help and win endorsements from other Dem superdelegates who are in battleground districts. If the convention comes down to brokering among superdelegates, Dean, last year's longest shot to win the Dem nomination, will have more superdelegate support than the naysayers think. Helping Boswell does send a strong signal to the current Democratic Party leadership that People-powered Howard is the defacto leader of the Democratic Party. Kevin Schmidt: I don't know Boswell from "Adam's Off Ox," as Bill Clinton used to say.
Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter what I think of him. For that matter, doesn't matter what you think of him.
He's the only Democrat in the Iowa delegation. He has been targeted by the GOP, which wants a sweep of the delegation. And Howard Dean has gone to back for that Democrat.
Democrats will see it, and support Howard Dean as a result. Dana Blankenhorn | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 3:14 pm | #

Dana, it does matter what I think of him, I can vote for or against him as I live in his district. And I will help the GOP boot him out of office. Kevin Schmidt | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 3:21 pm | #

How is it that IA has such a Republican delegation? Are any of the Republicans vulnerable?

I'm not worried about Boswell, or Kevin Schmidt.
But it seems Joe Trippi thinks the way I do, based on the media conference call item above.

iowa is a very rural state and traditionally conservative, from what i've learned during my time there (if i'm wrong, i'm sure kevin will speak up). most of the dmeocratic support is closer to the cities, isn't it kevin?
and yea, you are caucusing for daen and for that i thank you (even if your motives may sound dubious to us). maybe i'll knock on your door during that week in january. =) oh, BTW, congrats on the new arrival! anna | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 4:03 pm | #

Thanks Anna. Actually Western Iowa is the most conservative and Central and Eastern Iowa tend to be a little more liberal. You might knock on my door, you never know. Either way drop me a line when you get here. Hey, a caucus vote for Dean is a caucus vote for Dean right? Kevin Schmidt | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 4:08 pm | #

yes kevin, and that's why i don't hold your snarkiness against you.
i'll definitely give you a ring when i get there. i'm shooting for the entire week before the caucuses (thank god i get more vacation time as of jan 1). my husband - he who puts up with me and keeps up with me - will be there as well. maybe the four of us could go out to dinner one night (provided i'm not working the entire time) and try not to talk about politics. heh. anna | Email | Homepage | 12.04.03 - 6:51 pm | #
