I've noticed Edwards has backed off considerably since "Rock the Vote" debate. maybe he's hoping for a vp nod? Jo in Vermont | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 2:02 pm | #

I can't see anyone else as a better choice. I noticed this also. CMB would be a great Sec of State in a Dean White House( but they'll probably go with a man so's not to look "soft"). Rick | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 2:22 pm | #

Edwards is a bit green for VP. Maybe Attorney General?

I remain willing to support the nominee of the Party, but ... Mr. Edwards lost any enthusiasm I might ever have mustered for him when he snapped off his "The last thing we need is people like you ..." remark, grandstanding on the "Conferate Flag" flap. It seems to me that so far in this campaign, Sen. Edwards has ben the personification of style over substance, far more concerned with looking good than with exercising anything resembling leadership. What, exactly, does he stand for? A side note...is this article the start of the "Dean is pessimistic" assault we've been hearing about? Brian Ulrich | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 3:25 pm | #

Edwards' main thrust is economic stratification. That wins him a big place in my heart.
Regarding VP, I think Dean would have no choice but to pick a serious military man, preferrably someone who was not opposed to the Iraq war. He needs to be able to say "I was opposed to invading Iraq under the circumstances we did. I'm not scared of working with and taking advice from people who were not."
I'm not even sure if such a democrat exists?
Let's face it, if the election starts getting close, Bush & Co. can push the terror alert level to orange, attack Syria or Iran, and regain popularity in the polls. sobko | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 3:41 pm | #

I like Edwards a lot. I wrote him off early because of his inexperience and because he is a plaintiff's attorney - which I thought was an unforgivable sin. But he's won me over with his thoughtful populism. He completely obliterates the class warfare argument by thoughtfully basing his platform on values and ethics. I think he could have energized young and disenchanted voters if Dean wasn't in the race.
I think he would be a great choice for VP. If the guy can make any southern states even close, it would be a great coup, as it will force Bush to defend those states. He's smart, camera friendly, and will likely be able to stay solidly on message. He supported the Iraq war, which is good because the Dems will have to heal this divide. But Edwards hasn't been shrill like Lieberman, Gephardt and (recently) Kerry in attacking Dean on the issue. The fact that he has backed off Dean shows me he is running for VP right now, which is a good thing, because we don't want someone bitter that they lost the nomination. He has one hell of a future. There is no question he will be on the short list. G Spot1 | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 4:44 pm | #

Though I believe Edwards acquits himself with class but he still has the stench of The Patriot Act on him. Whatever he had to do with it (I'm not studied on his roll in drafting it) he did help write the thing. As far as his complicity in this unconstitutional piece of garbage, it should not earn him Ashcroft's spot. RM NYC | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 5:32 pm | #

Edwards has much to admire. While he voted for the Iraq war,and the Patroit Act I have been Impressed with the fact that unlike Kerry,Lieberman, and Gephardht he knows there are civil rights that needs to be protected. My gut tells me Dean will go with Graham(or to get the CLintons support Clark) as his running mate but I think Edwards would make a great Attorney General. Edwards is the only candidate still in the Presidential race who might stand a chance to be Veep under Dean. He's still a longshot though. Kai Price | Email | Homepage | 01.02.04 - 7:03 pm | #
