Hmmmm....just a thought. Did every last person who contributed because of the Meetup challenge remember to add a penny? I would assume that they probably didn't, which means that the true figure will probably never be known.

Indeed. This weblog entry doesn't indicate if they're counting "add a penny" donations as coming from the challenge.

The true effect of the challenge will probably never be known, but its cool that they campaign is providing some updates about it. Continuous feedback is important for keeping people interested in helping. Remember those "money thermometers" in front of every school in the spring!

Yeah, I know a lot of people at our Meet-Up group in S.F. donated, but wrote a check with round numbers at the end. I, myself, just started adding .01 to my donations.

There was a checkbox on the contribution form on deanforamerica.com to indicate whether your contribution was earmarked as part of the Meetup Million Dollar Challenge. At least is was when I gave on 3/29/03...so in addition to "add a penny" , this was another way the Dean campaign know if it came as a result of the Challenge.

The amount we are counting as Meetup Challenge contributions includes any contribution with an .01 or if someone checked the Meetup Challenge checkbox on the Dean site. In the last week leading up to the deadline over $400,000 in contributions came into the campaign via the internet -- we are well aware that the Meetup Challenge spurred many of these contributions. We will continue to quantify and report updates on Meetup Challenge progress towards the $1,000,000 mark -- we are 1/4 of the way there. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Joe, Zephyr,

can this story be sent to media somehow? the coverage and buzz it would generate would expon. push us to the next milestone. Deans media coverage jhas been zero since the war, and this is a great way to open the gates again.
