Wow, Dean is consistent between men and women while Kerry is leading among men. I wonder if we'd see something similar on a national scale? If so then I'd definately say that tilts in Howard's favor as it'll be crucial to do well among women in the national race. Adam in MA | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 2:17 pm | #

On the flip side of the argument, one could say that since Dems already have a majority of women in their column, that Kerry's appeal among men (the Vietnam thing?) makes him more electable. But I do agree that it is best to have balanced support between men and women. TXdem | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 2:24 pm | #

Some of us from the Boston Meetup are going to NH on Saturday for the democratic convention. Are any of the other Meetup's from the surrounding states going to be in NH on Saturday? Adam in MA | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 2:49 pm | #

Women are probably more likely to be anti-war, therefore pro-Dean. CA Pol Junkie | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 3:26 pm | #

Remember It was women who got CLinton elected both times, and who helped Gore win the popular vote in 2000. This boades well. If he can score well with minorites as well he will have the nomination. And he will be a serious threat to Bush In 2004. Chris Roberts | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 3:33 pm | #

The thing I like about Dean's numbers there is that in virtually every early poll I see, women are more hesitant than men - men seem willing to pass judgment quickly.
If women commit, they usually truly commit early on. That's an observation based on polls I've seen and I don't have any research, but I think it's the case. Matthew Singer | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 4:22 pm | #

Look for a good contingent from VT at the NH Democratic Convention this Saturday in Manchester, NH. daveinvt | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 5:30 pm | #

About the war support, they only polled Democrats:
"The poll, conducted 3/30-31, surveyed 606 likely Democratic primary voters"
I'd imagine that Democratic primary voters would also tend to be even more progressive because it doesn't include many moderates/undecided who might vote for the Democrat in the general election. bketcham | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 6:08 pm | #

I was a bit surprised by the number for war support. The national polls have been putting this at about the 70% support level. Yet this poll has only 34% supporting the war?

Arg! Sorry about that. I hit refresh and it reposted my previous message.
Anyway, thanks for the war support number explanation. Chris Andersen | Email | Homepage | 04.03.03 - 8:20 pm | #

These figures are the same as on Dean's official site. I was looking at John Edward's site a few hours ago and is said there the HE was equal with Kerry at 21%. Now that news item seems to have vanished.
I wonder what the story is there. Tom | Email | Homepage | 04.04.03 - 8:51 am | #
