I am noticing two sides in this comparison game:
1. Some of the fearful at the DLC and some with vested interests in other candidates have taken to comparing Dean to McGovern. I think of these as the cowardly democrats. Here is to hoping that they will wake up and realize that being cowards and refusing to stand up for liberal issues will lead no where except to four more years for Bush et al.
2. A growing number of enlightened individuals is recognizing something different about Dean. An elusive spark that is resonating and spreading like a gleeful wave among the Democratic faithfull. This group is busy trying to name this spark in comparison to other times and leaders who produced similar excitement and energy. Dean is being compared favorably to Clinton and Harry Truman. Republicans have noticed that Dean has a certian resemblance to McCain and I'm sure that Karl Rove is worried given the huge amount of support and energy that McCain brought to the campaign against Bush.
In the end the truth is that the political world and media has just begun to glimpse Dean and understand what is happening. Dean simply does not fit into any of the preordained stereotypes because he is a unique man, one who combines honesty and integrity with a formidable intellect and communication skills. He is a Doctor/Scientist and a pragmatist who looks at each issue carefully and invariably picks the sensible and correct position. It is no suprise to us from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party that these positions that are so correct and thoughtful also happen to be our core liberal values.
You fearfull in the DLC: worry your heads no more. Something new and refreshing is coming that will wipe away all of these fearfull instincts to cow tow to the Republicans on social issues. Can you hear the wave? Adam in MA | Email | Homepage | 04.08.03 - 10:03 am | #
