This is awesome! Finally, some positive press from mainstream media. Fineman's words are well regarded in the biz. JobyTodd | Email | Homepage | 05.07.03 - 4:01 pm | #

Howard Fineman has been talking up Dean since last Fall. He appears regularly on the Chris Mathews show "Hardball" He's one of the few that Chris has on the show that dicusses topics with knowledge and dare I say "fair and balanced reporting"
It's been interesting to see Chris Mathew's reaction whenever Howard mentioned Howard's Name. For months Chris had never acknowledged Howard Deans name no matter what Howard Fineman said. It was getting to be creepy.
Last week Chris finally said the "Howard Dean" word, much to my astonishment. Dean is exactly the kind of man that Chris Mathew detests. Someone who would get in Chris's face and tell HIM to shut-up. Well Dean has more manners than that but you know what I mean.
Anyway it's great to see that Howard Fineman is still looking smart. Robert Deeble | Email | Homepage | 05.07.03 - 4:18 pm | #

Just a note of caution about Howard Fineman: there is a reason why MediaWhoresOnline.com has named him a Media Whore of the Year. The guy LOVES writing thinly disguised love poems to Bush. He, like Mathews, is easily swayed by Dubya's swagger. He actually seems to think it is a sign of good leadership.
Still, having said that, I find it amazing to be in so much agreement with Fineman when it comes to Dean. I think he is right that his colleagues in the press should be careful not to dismiss Dean. This may just be wishful thinking, but i think this campaign is going to surprise an awful lot of people (not us of course . Chris Andersen | Email | Homepage | 05.07.03 - 5:28 pm | #

Good point about Matthews, Robert! Having seen Dean hold his own against Russert, I think Dean would certainly hold his own against Chris "Air Raid Siren" Matthews. Allan Todd | Email | Homepage | 05.07.03 - 5:29 pm | #

Joe,
You should recommend that Gandhi quote to the Dean folks as something to put up on their web site. It pretty much says it all. Chris Andersen | Email | Homepage | 05.07.03 - 5:30 pm | #

Problem with the Gandhi quote is that when you lose, first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then you lose and they forget you. Luke Francl | Email | Homepage | 05.07.03 - 6:17 pm | #

As a regular reader of Mediawhoresonline.com, I feel that Howard Fineman has been a horse's ass regarding his sychophantic coverage of Bush. He did win "Whore of the Year," and was a close runner up last year. His most memorable quote after 9/11 was to the effect that "Bush doesn't read history; he's busy making it." And Bush bequeathed one of the cherished White House press nicknames: Fineman is "Fine."
I also regularly read the dailyhowler.com. It's a stunning reminder at how absolutely immoral lazy, and corrupt the press has become. We have to be cautious when someone like Fineman dishes up positives. Not that he's bright enough to have a scheme, but he's a dubious journalist at best. Fortunately mediawhoresonline.com has commented that Gov. Dean is "way on to the game."
And tonight I became convinced Dean will be our next Pres. The NYC meetup was great, California for Dean has a fantastic downloadable CD-ROM, the meetup list grew to over 22,000, a CNN poll asking if Bush can be beaten at one point today said 70-30...yes! (I'd check that for accuracy, mine and CNN's.) I know Rove and his goon are waiting and that's sobering, but Dean can cut through the propaganda.
