Hey everyone,

The NYTimes is running a poll on its website for the Democratic primary. Get online and cast your vote for Howard Dean! He's currently polling at 8% (better than Edwards, but behind Gary Hart!)... Here's the link:

OK Baltimore lets get out the grass roots! The location of the Baltimore Dean2004 Meetup is:
Last Chance Saloon, 5888 A Robert Oliver Place Columbia, MD 21045, Columbia, MD (map)
on Wednesday, February 5 @ 7:00PM

If I get them in on time I'll have some free Dean bumper stickers to pass out to the first folks to show! Lets be able to report that we had the best showing of all the cities, make some contributions, and talk some bare knuckles politics!!!
See You There...

Title IX is under attack by this administration, and I think if one of us doesn't win, next thing girls won't be able to go to school in America, you watch.

Um... don't get me wrong, I love Howard Dean. But this line is way, way over the top.

DavidNYC, it's just a throwaway line that the anti-Dean talking points have been quoting for a week now.... I liked the way Dean responded to it being brought to his attention. He laughed at himself, and then attacked Bush.

and david, if you'll check out the video archive of the speech, you'll see the quote is clearly in jest. but most people will only read the quote, which is why it's important for the dean defense forces to put that into context for everyone.

i took the time to watch the speeches over the weekend and WOW, i was impressed!

All fair points, MyDD and anna. But try getting those same points hear over the general media cacaphony. Rather than trying to stuff cats back in bags, I think Dean needs to be more careful about what comes out of his mouth.

you make a good point, david, in regards to people being misunderstood, and i can see how you'd urge caution at this point.

i'd hope that his honesty will appeal to people, but i know how easily offended some folks are. you're welcome to send that type of feedback to the dean campaign. i'm sure they'd appreciate any helpful advise, as they seem to be very willing to work with grassroots suppporters.

Those "easily offended" types aren't paying attention at this point, so no worries.
That kind of humor doesn't bother me a bit, of course, and after reading this speech, I'm about ready to sign on. I'd forgotten what a Democrat was supposed to sound like.
Of course, I'm out here in Ohio, and my primary vote may not mean a thing. I voted for McCain in '00, in a futile attempt to stick it to GWB. (Well, maybe not futile. It gave the county GOP my name and phone number, so they wasted valuable time calling me to get my vote out last November. I laughed at them.)

David and Matt are both right. Nobody should cry over spilled milk, but as more people start tuning in, these barbs should be less hyperbolic. There's plenty of time to smooth off the roughest of rough edges, though maintaining his straight-shooting, take-no-prisoners approach is crucial.
