This is not related to the polling story, but I don't know how to post something "new". |

So every announced candidate except Sharpton is within the convention bounce of leading Bush in the polls. How can this be anything but good news for Dean? |
Sorry... was reading one poll and commenting on another poll... Here's the data from the poll my comment was devived from... |
At the rate Edwards is going, he will be duking it out with Al Sharpton for last place...once Edwards drops, Dean is most likely to get his votes (NRA and dean is not a "Stuffy old man") Combine 50% of edwards polling with deans...its looking good. |
My only concern is that Terry Macaullife front loaded the pirmary schedule which makes it hard for canidates with little name ID or money to win the nomination. |

I found the two polls that American Research Group recently came out with were very telling. In the NH poll taken Jan 14, Dean was at 15% to Kerry's 27%. But Kerry's "awareness" percentile, or the measure of "have you heard of this candidate" was 91% to Deans 64%, which means that Dean can only improve his numbers as he becomes better known, but Kerry is already a known commodity. Also the "unfavorables" or "I will never vote for this candidate" were very high for Gephardt (20%), Lieberman (19%), and Sharpton (40%).In the South Carolina poll taken Jan 31st, Lieberman lead the pack at 22% (go figure) with 96% name recognition, but again he has a 21% unfavorable rating, Gephardt's unfavorable was at 31% and Kerry's was at 19% unfavorable with only a 47% name recognition! MY POINT to all this is that this far out we really should'nt worry too much that our guy is low in the polls...we need to watch the unfavorable ratings for the better known candidates in relation to Deans "awarness" percentile. He is largely still an unknown commodity even to people that pay attention to politics, but candidates like Gephardt, Lieberman, and Kerry are already largely "defined" in many voters minds, and defined with sizable negative ratings. |

Dean's numbers will go up once he starts going on the air. By the way...talk is cheap. Have you sent in your contribution, yet? |
