a p/r piece on cbsnews.com (under politics) based on the new piece in ny magazine regarding dean. any publicity is good news..... jeff | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 1:29 pm | #

And so it begins...
The really interesting paragraph, I think, is this one:
"Meryl Gordon got a REALLY inside look at the Deans' lives, including an invitation from the former governor to "feel free to look around" his family's home while he shoveled-off an outdoor hockey rink with his teenage son. (Yes, a presidential candidate actually invited a reporter to snoop around his family home. He told Gordon that he has "no secrets" and that even the medicine cabinets weren't off-limits. Gordon, fortunately for the Deans, stuck to describing the furnishings in the messy – "ransacked" in her words – home.) "
One could read this positively or negatively, I suppose.
Negative: "These people are slobs."
Positive: "That sounds like MY house. Wow, Dean must be pretty comfortable with himself to let a total stranger wander around his house when it's messy like that. FHC | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 2:16 pm | #

I think the interesting pieces to take from this article are the numerous quotes from real Democratic insiders - Soros, McAuliffe, Furman - and the Hollywood types (Benning, Beatty, Ephron). With visibility in those camps, access to money and PR will naturally follow.
More comments at my blog. (I'd be posting here, but a Blogger bug is keeping me from joining!)

I have word from the campaign that Soros has endorsed Dean. davidkrew | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 2:52 pm | #

The endorsements are soooo crucial. Soros is a coup. Furman's comment was also incredibly heartening. I think Terry Mac is a little tepid for the time being though.

Not yet. I heard it from David Salie, the Deputy Director for Grassroots Fundraising. He just told me over the phone.
Hopefully it will get some press soon. I'll keep my eyes peeled. davidkrew | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 4:37 pm | #

re: Meryl Gordon on Dean
While I admit having been a member of the Bar Harbor Club in Maine, I'm not into ancestor worship, and suspect most voters don't care at all -- about Howard Dean's coat of arms, club affiliations, or what his forebears did did for a living. Meryl Gordon got the part about "governing an aging-hippie" population right too. If Dean could just stick to the issues -- why heck --I might even..... I'm moved to both tears and goosebumps. The country would be fortunate to have him as our President. JobyTodd | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 6:33 pm | #

nymetro.com is not just some website, and the article didn't just run there. This website is connected to New York Magazine, which has a huge circulation. The article is teased on the cover. Marshall | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 9:25 pm | #

If Soros has endorsed Dean, this is huge news. Obviously, Soros has some major ties to some very rich folks. They could even donate a ton of money to the Dean's PAC to promote him (indirectly).
Regarding Terry Mac -- I don't think you'll see him endorse any candidate (at least officially). It would be very embarassing for him if his endorsed candidate was not to win the Party's endorsement. So he's got to remain neutral. Luke Francl | Email | Homepage | 02.19.03 - 9:38 pm | #

With so many candidates running, it would be foolish for Terry Mac to make an endorsement. JobyTodd | Email | Homepage | 02.20.03 - 6:45 am | #

I handed out about 100 flyers in an hour for the Gov. in NYC yesterday and then got back to my office to find this miraculous article in New York Magazine. It is gold. But we have to keep building on the momentum it will generate.
Flyering, by the way, is tough work, but necessary to get his name out. The politicians (in Washington) abandoned America after the coup of 2000, the media caved in long before. What do we have left? Word of mouth, the Internet, and hitting the streets.

speaking of flyering, at the dallas area anti-war rally on saturday i passed out about one hundred fifty dean flyers. unfortunately we had a (wonderful) unexpected turnout of about 4000 folks. i should have printed a few thousand of the flyers, because people were VERY receptive to dean's message.
as an aside, there were people handing out flyers for various causes, and i saw lots of flyers on the ground afterward. i only found -one- dean flyer on the ground. i picked it up and handed it to someone else, who kept it. =)

I just picked up the magazine. The cover promotes the articles like this: "Why Vermont Governor Howard Dean is New York's Presidential Favorite Son" Very nice. davidkrew | Email | Homepage | 02.20.03 - 4:47 pm | #
