Though actually, the Salon article brings up a cogent crtique - Dean doest have solid experience with race issues. Senator Lieberman, for example, actually went down to Mississippi to help register black voters in the 1960s (risking his life). The other major candidates have lots of legislative experience and NAACP approved credentials. The best response Dean has to how he could appeal to the black vote is, "I roomed with two blacks in college". There is of course more to it than that, but overall he is weakly positioned. these are great reasons for getting howard in touch with members of our black and brown communities. i think regardless of the sharpton and braun candidacies, howard should actively reach out to those communities. anna | Email | Homepage | 02.20.03 - 11:49 am | #

in some respects, braun defuses te threat from sharpton. that is, assuming anyone bothers to show up for Braun's speeches ... Aziz Poonawalla | Email | Homepage | 02.20.03 - 12:49 pm | #

I don't think it'll matter so much in the long run: that's why you have advisors and the like. What matters is whether or not he can attract the advisors who do have the experience, so that they can translate his grand ideas into votes and policy. Raphael | Email | Homepage | 02.24.03 - 2:59 am | #
