While I've been advocating a Dean-Clark ticket for 2004, would it be possible for the Democrats to have a "national unity" ticket? Dean-McCain?
That would definately have the entire Republican establishment shaking in their boots.

Dean-McCain is exactly what I proposed back in September - check out the link in update footnote. I call that dream ticket, "The Super Men"

I think Dean and McCain would make a great combination, but is it at all realistic? shawn | Email | Homepage | 02.21.03 - 4:49 pm | #

It is absolutely constitutionally allowed, since there is no constitutional seperation of the parties. Lest we forget that when this country started the president was the one who got the most votes, while the vice-president was the one with the second most votes.
With that said, I think the chances are slim and none for this dream ticket. McCain is loyal to a fault and would NEVER do something like this, no matter how cool it might be. Scott | Email | Homepage | 02.21.03 - 5:29 pm | #

No way McCain'll accept a VP slot, short of the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt returning to run in 2004. Just doesn't mesh with his personality...BUT...
...if McCain ever finds reason (or opportunity) to bolt the GOP, like a primary challenge from the right in AZ, I'm sure he'd follow his good friend Jim Jeffords in supporting (and actively campaigning for) our candidate. Furthermore, I could see him finishing out his career as a great Sec. of Defense in President Dean's cabinet. Joe Mariani | Email | Homepage | 02.21.03 - 5:35 pm | #

Joe,
Now that would give Rove&Co. a real headache!

If McCain ever leaves the Republican party, it will be as an independent. He's up for re-election next year, and I'm sure there are enough hard-right Republicans in Arizona who are just itching to challenge him in a primary. Clark has already stated on 'Meet the Press' that he is not interested in the Vice Presidency, but I sure hope he changes his mind. If not, then Dean should pick Graham. With Graham you get the south and the intelligence committee knowledge, thus serving as a double innoculation on the security issue and picking up southern votes, especially Florida, Graham's home state. CB-
No one every publically states they're running for the Vice Presidency...esp. this early in the game.
Give Gen. Clark another year and he'll change his mind. JobyTodd | Email | Homepage | 02.22.03 - 9:41 pm | #
