Did anyone catch Face the Nation today? Schaeffer (sic?) ended the program with a HUGE kudo for Dean. He said in campaigns past there have been phrases that have caught the nations attention for those who have beaten their challengers - Mondale Vs Hart ..."wheres the Beef?", or Reagan Vs. Carter..."are you better off now than you were 4 years ago" or Clintons "its the economy stupid". He said that Dean won hands down the "WOW" test or the "did you hear what ---- said" test with Dean's masterful quote at the DNC conference speech with ..."I'm Howard Dean...and I'm here to represent the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party"...WOW indeed!!! What I though was most telling of that was the imprompu meeting afterwards with Donna Brazile, what an asset she could be for Dean, especially getting Deans message introduced into the southern states!
On another note...to carry on the discussion from the previous posting...I'm with CB on a VP choice at this point. DEAN/CLARK 1st, or DEAN/GRAHM 2nd. Grahm was very popular in Florida as Gov and should be considered by whoever is the nomminee for the VP spot (I don't think he has any real chance at getting the nomination). But theres something about a DEAN/CLARK ticket that when put against BUSH-CHENEY says to me we could'nt lose...

The "democratic wing of the democratic party" quote is a great line, but I wish he'd credit the souce: Paul Wellstone. Anyway, as long as he keeps using it, it makes the point that most of the Democratic candidates don't stand where the Democratic Party should be.

I enjoyed Gov Dean's speech at the Democratic meeting in DC. I agree with Governor Dean that Republicians cannot manage money. I wish Gov Dean would add the following line when he is speaking about this subject.

"The only way President Bush and the Republicians can cut taxes for their rich friends and campaign contributors is to borrow lots of money where our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren must pay for many years to come."

I saw the Face the Nation episode this morning and was impressed also. Any way a Canadian can vote for Dean? Bush II is just bad news for America and the rest of the planet too as far as I can see.

For what it is worth: Seeing Scheiffer's name at the top of MG's posting brought a shiver because I just went through a two-week back and forth series of blistering e-mails with him. He just responded tonight accepting a fake apology from me because I was sick of his lame responses. I had written him because of his pro-Bush connections (outlined by Bob Sommerby at dailyhowler.com) I had asked Schieffer how could we ever expect a fair dialog on his show given his connections? I basically called him and all the Sunday morning shows "garbage scowls." He never answered my questions, just lamented that I wouldn't be a viewer. So maybe these pinheads need to be bludgeoned with harsh words so they might look beyond their own noses. I'm not saying I did it, but what a coincidence, seeing this. What a coincidence for me. And what a candidate: Gov. Howard Dean, M.D. Dean/Clark in 04.

And it is true that is a Wellstone saying. I'm torn: I'm sure Paul wouldn't mind (Gov. Dean did win the first AFL CIO Wellstone award for support of labor), but giving credit every time would stretch the attention span ability of the media morons. Perhaps a credit here or there to Paul and using the uncredited version on the stump.

Just some thoughts.

"The "democratic wing of the democratic party" quote is a great line, but I wish he'd credit the souce: Paul Wellstone."

Actually, it was said before Wellstone as well. But anyway, its apropo that Dean, who recieved the 1st annual Wellstone award for his defense of the Nursing strike in VT, carry on the progressive/labor message. That, and Brazile's move have really shaken the conventional wisdom equation. Here, the CW already had Dean boxed in as the next coming of the Babbitt/Tsongas routine, and he's went and grabed ahold the thunder wing.

Mitch, you could send a donation! Just toss some of your beautiful money in an envelope. Vermonters don't mind having Canadian money-- we just save it till the next trip across.

Actually, I think that it's illegal for foreigners to donate directly to candidates.

Is there a place on the web listing Dean's public schedule for events such as these?

Luke is correct:

Prohibited Contributions - Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals may not make contributions in connection with any election - Federal, State or local. This prohibition does not apply to foreign citizens who are lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States (those who have "green cards").

hey all, one thing about gramm has been brought to my attention lately. apparently he's a hard-core death penalty supporter, and has also flip flopped on the abortion issue. those are two issues that i can't really give any wiggle room on, although i try very hard not to be a "single-issue voter". just thought i'd bring it up, and see where the discussion goes...

at this point my preference in a dean/clark ticket.

Mathew - For Dean's upcoming events, I've been checking "http://www.politicsvt.com/features/dean% 20watch.htm". A week ago it was current but it hasn't been updated recently. All of the "upcoming events" have already happened, except: Thursday, February 27 - Dean will attend and speak at the NH Democratic Party Annual "100 Club" fundraiser, Manchester, NH.
