I just got an email from the campaign explaining Meetup Challenge, etc.. I gave money literally within seconds, just to impress them. The awesome power of the internet!

I gave mine today, too...

I heard something about barbara streisand endorsing Dean...is this true?

Yes Seth, she has endorsed Dean. I am sure that will provide the GOP with lots of fodder, but I also think that her fundraising ability will benefit Dean's campaign.

I am impressed people have come out so soon for Dean. It makes me realize I'm not the only one who can see serious problems with our country right now.

viv, isn't solidarity wonderful?

Good Gawd. Please no Babs. I'm glad she's on the right side but I wish she'd shut up.

Seriously though - I think I have what is a dumb question - I don't fully understand the campaign laws - once he gets enough $250? I wouldn't think it would matter but I want to make sure.

AN additional q - has the campaign done anything on the monthly donation idea that somebody mentioned in an earlier thread?

I just read on drudge that Kerry grossed some $2M Wed night at a Boston fundraiser. Organizers are claiming it is the largest amount in history raised in one night through individual donation. The million dollar Dean challenge Anna announced a couple days back is right on track. We have our work cut out for us.

The FEC matches up to $250, but you can give up to $2000 is my understanding.

Individuals may donate up to $2000. However, the FEC will only match up to $250. If you are considering donating, please do it in increments of $250 or less so it will be fully matched.

As for the monthly donation, we will check with the campaign. I know they are revamping their site once again, and perhaps they could hook that up.

Yes, Anna has it right: the FEC matching will only happen for donations up to $250 at one time. But here is the "loophole": they will match multiple donations by a single individual, as long as each donation is no more than $250. Since individuals can give up to $2000, if you donate that full amount by giving 8 separate $250 donations, then the FEC will end up matching it all, thus giving the candidate $4000.

I just read my anon post. It comes across like an illiterate person wrote it. I was using the less than and greater than signs for the $250 and I think it went into HTML -duh.

My question was and I think its been answered - once Dean has gotten enough $250 donations it doesn't affect the matching funds if you go back and give more than a total of $250.

thanks for helping me clarify this, alex.

anon: there can never be enough donations of $250 or less. those will be matched for the life of the campaign until an individual has reached the $2000 limit. =)
