I really enjoyed reading CRUEL AND UNUSUAL By David Podvin this morning.

I am of the opinion that most Republicans are afraid to get tough in public discourse, because they come unglued. They have propped up a facade of moral superiority over others, that even they themselves believe. When Democrats confront them, say, "Hey, you are no more American than I am, Republicans are no more patriotic than Democrats. In fact, you are just using patriotism to further your own narrow partisan agenda. That's dispicable, and you should be ashamed." What they really want to respond with here is a Magnum 45, or a big flipper like Ben Stein did, when he was called on it, by Arianna Huffington, for his partisan exploitation of patriotism:

Actually, I haven't seen the new Crossfire, though I have read a few transcripts, which takes less time, and hasn't the annoying commercial programming. Podvin has laid it out very clear here, a good read.
