05/02/2002 Archived Entry: "Keller blowing up himself"

The way the GOP loses:

Keller has contacted the family of Díaz's former police partner, George DeSalvia, who died in a shootout in 2000, for the purpose of discrediting Díaz, who was seriously wounded and left for dead in the same shootout.

The point is that some members of the family think Díaz didn't do enough to save DeSalvia. Even though Díaz took several bullets and spent the past two years recuperating from his brush with death, Keller thinks there's a campaign nugget or two to be mined in his favor. This is the first time Keller has contacted the DeSalvia family, according to news reports. I guess it wasn't important to contact the grieving family earlier.

I am not surprised at this development. I give Eddie Diaz a shot at winning against Keller, despite the money advantage, if not in 2002, then by 2004 for sure, given the demographics of the district shifting.

Keller has to attack Díaz because he has no heroic chapter in his own life to relate.
Sure, he is all for the war against terrorism and for the defense of our troops.
Keller, however, has no military service. No war stories. No law-enforcement experience. Nada.

What, Keller is another GOP chicken-hawk!?!
