05/05/2002 Archived Entry: "Oregon Dem Governor primary"

Kulongoski has slipped from 46% in the first poll out after Kitzhabers endorsement, to 34% to 14% over Stein about 6 weeks ago. And, in the latest poll, Kulongoski only leads Stein and Hill by 26% to 21% each, with 32% undecided. 5% MOE, meaning it's a toss-up. Stein is the one with the momentum, here is an excellent "hipfish" editorial endorsing Stein for Governor:

If you've read any of hipfish's features over this past year, you've read up on education, forest and watershed practices, economic and environmental sustainability, community health, and, of course, our coastal plethora of arts and culture. No wonder Bev Stein is on the cover this month -- she fits right in.

...(rest of long article)...

Coastal voters have proven one of the strongest liberal, rural votes in the state -- much like Stein: colorful, progressive and on the upper left edge -- that's not a bad match.

I have a feeling that Bev Stein is going to be Oregon's next Governor, sure hope so.

Hipfish, your crystal ball was a little foggy there. Only one out of five Oregon Democrats voted for Stein in the 2002 Primary. Defeat was by landslide proportions. Her long-standing history in the insidious Re-evaluation Counseling cult no doubt gave off vibes that many Democrats reacted to by supporting Ted Kulongoski. Those of us who have known this Stein person for 20 plus years and have in some way been exploited by the RC cult exhibit very little patience for the rah-rah blather written by so-called journalists about her. Let's hope she takes her rightful place with such former luminaries as Dan Mosee, Peg Jolin, Kelly Clark, and Jane Cease as politicians whose ad campaigns we no longer have to endure.

I dunno. You have to admit that Kitzhaber's endorsement was pretty much clinching. Without that, it would have been a tighter finish.

Stein had terrible-terrible media representation, she may be back, we'll see.
