No New Tax-Cuts!
"Read my lips: keeping current tax rates is not a tax increase." A good line by Lieberman, who has been announced by many as stepping up to the plate to call for the halting of the irresponsible tax-cuts. I think we'll be hearing it again in the future. But hey, let's not forget who got there first, even before Ted Kennedy:
“I think Democrats are interested in somebody who speaks their mind very frankly and is not afraid to take on conventional wisdom such as rolling back the tax cuts,” Dean said.
Dean is having his own problems right now, the the VT Senate passing a bill to legalize medical marijuana. The House passed a bill overwhelmingly. The Senate passed a measure that wasn't as strong, effectively killing it by sending it to conference. So, it's not likely to come up again before next year, when Dean is no longer Governor, which solves his problem. But as the poll shows, it wasn't a problem at all if he were to sign the bill, as in NH, it has strong support.
We are seeing the end of the WOD take shape currently. The WOT (War On Terror) is what the Republicans have in mind to replace it as their wedge, "daddy" issue. And we have John McCain to thank for pointing out here, questions about Sept. 11th security lapses, and that those who try to wedge the WOT --to attack or defend unthinkingly or because partisan identification is one's supreme interest-- saying, timidity is indefensibly irresponsible especially in times of war, so irresponsible that it verges on the unpatriotic.
I just got a huge solicitation packet in the mail from McCain yesterday, I didn't read any of it.... but hey, if the guy is still out there trying to raise money nationally, he has something in mind more than mere re-election.
Lot's of photo's out of Berlin, where this came from, 20k to greet Bush yesterday:
