05/28/2002 Archived Entry: "Establishment GOP bias, Quid Pro Quo in Florida, McBride"

I was thumbing through an issue of National Journal, whose pollsters are touted by the media as non-partisan, though their bias has shown over the years, as they have continuously been wrong in predicting Republican gains. That's not to say that they are Republican leaning, but that they are establishment voices. And there is little doubt that the establishment Party of the media is the Republicans:

A study of ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News in the year 2001 shows that 92 percent of all U.S. sources interviewed were white, 85 percent were male and, where party affiliation was identifiable, 75 percent were Republican.

From Florida, a bit of quid pro quo:

The biggest individual contributor this year to Republicans is Richard Fisher, a vice president at Federated Investors, a Pittsburgh-based money management firm. He gave the party $200,000. Federated Chairman John Donahue also gave the Florida GOP $80,000 early this year.

Federated was selected in November by Bush and two other trustees of the State Board of Administration as one of the managers for a new investment option for state pension fund members.

The firm was recommended by a consultant to manage some of the investments, and the party contributions came after the decision.

Bush's own campaign account has also received more than $15,000 from Federated, before the decision to let the company manage the retirees' money market accounts.

Elizabeth Hirst, a spokeswoman for Bush, said it is ''common-sense and politically acceptable'' to suggest that campaign contributions influenced the selection of Federated to help manage state retirement plans.

Actually, she said it was ''absurd and politically motivated'' to suggest quid pro quo... liar. A good article here on the one who stands by McBride's side. I have had McBride as the one in Florida who will beat Jeb Bush since last year, more of a gut call than anything else. It's been a long time since we've seen a poll come out of Florida, he's probably within 20% now of Reno, and still gaining. Remember, at this time in 2000, CW was saying that Bush had Florida all but locked up, against Gore. This will be another very close Florida election, tipping to the Democrats this time.

The Ipos-Reid Poll and the Fox Polls are more biased towards the GOP than most other polls, not including party polls. However, the award for the most biased polls goes to Ed Goeas of the Tarrance Groups who on August 25, 1998 predicted that the GOP would gain 25 seats in the House during the 1998 Mid Term elections. Actually the Democrats gained five. I think the Tarrance Group plainly lied and continue to lie. Furthermore, the NBC and the CBS polls as well as CNN-Gallop are right on the mark, when they show a large proportion of undecided.

Finally, this years award for the "jokester polls" goes to two polls. One was conducted by Hutchinson a few days ago showing him over 50% in Arkansas against Pryor...this at a time when Kirk and Cornyn are running neck and neck in Texas. The second was conducted by the GOP in Maryland's eighth district showing Morella up 21 points against Shriver in a district which has become nearly 50% minority...this at a time when the GOP and Democrats are running neck and neck in the generic polling. All I can say to those clowns is "dont make me laugh".

I concur. I wrote an atricle this year on the 2000 polls:

Asking mainly, has anything changed? As you show, nothing has. The GOP continues to use the enabler media and biased pollsters to push-poll public opinion.

People who conduct distorted surveys are fraud no doubt or at best incompetent. However, I have very little sympathy for mainstream media that prints garbage based on heresay rather than polls. At a time when even the most pessimistic polls (from the Dem point of view) indicate a tie between the Dems and GOP in the Congressional Ballot, we have so-called experts such as Marc Sandalow printing garbage in San Francisco Chronicle such as the one attached below. I really have very little patience for this nonsense. Sandalow is a well quaified journalist. Hence his article attached here is nothing but a fraud, and one wonders why we have dishonesty such as Enron and Arthur Andersen in our country:

The above fraud perpetrated by Marc Sandalow does not gell with the following reality:

or for that matter the latest opinion polls, even if they are biased towards the GOP:

Have you heard this fraud called American Viewpoint Polls? Says Morella is ahead by 21 points in the new heavily Democratic District
(with over 40% minority). What a joke!

G.C. Raj

We really ought to be documenting this crap.

American Viewpoint: http://www.amview.com/
National Research
Working with the Bush presidential campaign in 1988, the Phil Gramm campaign in 1996, and Bob Dole's campaign in 1996 cemented our reputation as a national polling company. We are also pleased to have conducted research for Elizabeth Dole's 2000 presidential exploratory committee. We have done work for other political groups looking to take the pulse of the nation. Our work with the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee gave us the opportunity to gauge the national electorate's feelings on a number of issues including health care reform, welfare reform, and women's issues.

Pure GOP crapola, along the lines of POS and POA. IT looks like they are a schill-pushpoll for GOP women candidates.
