06/13/2002 Archived Entry: "FL GOV Race: McBride Gaining, Reno getting Trounced"

McBride's support has risen to 25 percent of potential voters in the Sept. 10 primary, almost double the 13 percent tally he posted in the Mason-Dixon poll in January and considerably more than his showing in an April Herald/St. Petersburg Times poll.... ''We're whittling away at it right now,'' said McBride's campaign manager, Robin Rorapaugh, referring to the margin separating McBride and Reno. ``When we go up on television we're going to be able to overtake her.''

This Miami Herald article has some more info on the latest Mason-Dixon poll. An Orlando Sentinal article has more info on Reno's unelectability issue. Let's say that McBride wins the nomination and then chooses Martinez as his Lt. Gov, is there any doubt this will be a toss-up?

Mason-Dixon is a good polling firm. Rollcall used to focus on independent polls four years ago, until it became another entertainment with experts giving their opinions. I have not seen much polls lately. Other than pollingreport which every week releases a new poll on congressional races (generic). Ipos-Reid and Tarrance are bogus polls, and the same with the Democratic Polling firms. Would actually like to see what the state polls are indicating. Hotline scoop closed shop in March, and since then, no one summarizes the polls. Do you have any sources that may have the latest polls on the governor'r races in Oregon, PA, Maine or Illinois? Independent polls are worth considerably more than the garbage put out by analysts and other Washington insiders.

I was going to sign up for pollingreport a while back, which has state polling sources, but forgot about it. It's usually the local TV stations/newspapers that have reliable polling efforts.

RollCall pretty much just prints the polls that come to their attention, and highlights candidates that stop by their DC offices for sucking up, and the GOP with their candidates spoon feed them well.
