Bush’s favorite joke about 9/11 is not only in bad taste, it’s a lie.

Ronald Reagan used to say that recession is when your neighbor looses his job, depression is when you loose yours and recovery is when Jimmy Carter looses his.

Bush says:

“You know, when I was running for president, in Chicago, somebody said, would you ever have deficit spending? I said, only if we were at war, or only if we had a recession, or only if we had a national emergency. Never did I dream we’d get the trifecta.”

One can only hope that one day either in 2005 or in 2009 an yet unknown Democratic President says:

“You know, when I was running for president, in Vermont, somebody said, would you ever have a surplus? I said, only if I win the Presidency, and the Democrats keep the Senate, and only if the Democrats also win the House. Never did I dream we’d get the trifecta.”

And of course, I hope the Democrats get the trifecta this year: keep the Senate, take back the House and win majority of the Governorships.
