07/08/2002 Archived Entry: "Bush pulled up short in the Press Conference"

TIME TO EXHUME THE BODY? RonK from Seattle is a hardball hitter.
President Defends Record at Oil Firm: "I still haven't figured it out completely... In the corporate world, sometimes things aren't exactly black and white when it comes to accounting procedures," Mr. Bush said, referring to Harken.
Bush got the toast roast on Harken.
The rest of it was just yada-yada about the US Senate and the War. As Eric Alterman has said, "The whole notion of a “war” against terrorism is a right-wing ideological construct designed to further a bunch of goals that have nothing to do with protecting Americans."
MWO has quite a bit on Harken and Bush. You just knew that Bartlett threw up a softie for the Democrats when he made the speeding analogy:
The South Dakota Democrat said Bush's comparing what he had done to driving 60 mph in a 55 mph zone was "illustrative of this permissive environment and this attitude about business that is very destructive and very disconcerting to many of us.''

This morning, barely two hours ago, Treasury Secretary O'Neill pontified in front of the world on NBC. He made a statement to the effect that unqualified people should not be CEOs. However, O'Neill is not qualified for the job and Ann Krueger and John Taylor are. If Mr. O'Neill meant what he said, he should be a man of honor and set an example, ie., resign.
