07/11/2002 Archived Entry: "MN Politics, Independence Party gaining traction"

Tripartisanship looks strong in MN, with the Independence Party, now led by Tim Penny, attracting two MN Senate defectors from the Republican Party, Sens. Martha Robertson of Minnetonka and Sheila Kiscaden of Rochester:

Robertson signed on as the running mate of Tim Penny, a candidate for the Independence Party's gubernatorial endorsement. And Kiscaden announced she will run for re-election under the I-Party label. Robertson and Kiscaden, both respected 10-year legislative veterans, were denied GOP endorsement for re-election because of their support for legalized abortion and moderate stands on other issues.
