08/04/2002 Archived Entry: "Al Gore's response to the DLC; GOTV is all that matters"
Al Gore, Broken Promises and Political Deception, hits back hard to the likes of Lieberman and other soft-corporate Democrats. Just simmering beneath the Republican leaderships roadblock, there is a whole slew of backlogged "Economic Patriot" actions that will envelop Gore's "the people, not the powerful" mantra. Gore's Leadership 2002 website and his actions are all about laying down the foundation to claim partial-praise for helping to take back the House and keep the Senate. Gore ought to focus strong on TN. If Clement is able to takeaway the open Senate seat in TN, alongside the likely takeover of the 4th CD, Gore can make that case. On the heels of the 2000 election, totally amazed by the GOTV campaign done by the Gore team, amidst the lack of one by the Bush team, unexpected praise is not unexpected by those who watched it happen. If I were in Rove's head (God forbid!), rather than spend an additional $50M on those of-little-value TV commercials, I'd rent a van for every GOP precinct worker across the nation on election day, and give them $100 a head for the number of voters they drag to the polls.
