08/07/2002 Archived Entry: "Florida, Texas Democratic Dreams"
I've been feeling the same way about the Florida Governor race, Don't let `Dream Team' go to waste. As for Kirk, here's another Dream write-up for him, Why George Bush is scared of Ron Kirk-- The New Texan.

Mind you, this is not my own dream ticket for the Florida races. I would like to see McBride team up with a latino leader from S. Florida. I like the Hileah mayor Martinez, but saw Independent mayor of Miami Diaz speak, and he's terrific.
But if Reno wins the primary, there is still a slim shot of her beating Bush, based on a depressed GOP GOTV and strong Dem GOTV efforts. Given the dynamics surrounding the election, that is possible. However, there's a strong argument to be made that Reno GOTV more than anything else, for the Republicans.

The most telling paragraph on Ron Kirk. Is Texas still a racist state? As I have frequently said that the only thing that is in favor of John Cornyn is the color of his skin...not his performance.
"Kirk may be thinking wishfully when he says that the people of Texas will not have Tom Daschle or George Bush on their minds when they cast their votes for the Senate, but he was almost certainly correct that the race boiled down to the question of whether or not white Texans would vote for a black man. That is the compelling aspect of his campaign—its quest to convince white voters that, based on Kirk's record in Dallas, they can vote for Ron Kirk not for reasons of guilt or piety but for reasons of self-interest."
And as the article concludes.."If Texas doesn't vote for him, it's going to say something about Texas, and it will not be very good."., ie Texas is a racist state and would remain so until minorities become a majority.
