I know Oregonian and MyDD are somewhere in Oregon. Where is Oregon City exactly? It is in the news all over the place here in the east coast. Is it part of Portland or somewhere near Salem or Eugene. I have been to all three towns, but never heard of Oregon City until a famous female college basketball player showed up at Stanford four years ago.

Mydd- by exactly how much do you believe McBride will win the nomination?

Oregon "City" is just south of Portland on the Willamette River. It's kind of a "suburb," I guess, but is still fairly rural in character.

who ever wins the primary in florida is gonna beat bush, because of the angry democrat. voter turnout will probably near presidential election levels in florida u can count on it!!

You can count on me as an angry democrat vote in Florida, on top of Jeb as Governor I will have Katherine Harris on the ballot as my Rep. Talk about horrible luck!

HAHAHA!! Jake thats bad!! you got it the worst of anyone I know this cycle lol. That was funny.

The Florida Republican party is a rotting compost heap of scandals bad govenment and bad leadership.
Demographically Florida is slipping away from them.
Democrats are now realizing that they have a real chance of beating Jeb. In order to do this they must nominate Bill McBride. I believe they will do this.

Great news for Pingree! Lake-Snell Perry Poll has Collins up 46-39! Even with the MOE taken in, Collins leads 50-35. It's much better than before!
While I admire Janet Reno, I believe that McBride is the better candidate. However, I still think Reno will squeak away with the nomination, thanks to help from State Senator Darryl "Don Quixote" Jones, who apparently is siphoning off anti-Reno votes from McBride.
If you're looking for the best candidate against Harris, vote for Jan Schneider in the primary. Brown-McElyea is embroiled in a dispute over adding a hyphen to her name so she could be first on the ballot. She has been damaged by it. Schneider is a Democratic activist and a popular lawyer and author. She went to Law School with both Bill and Hillary Clinton, and is a charming, intelligent candidate. Really? I would think that Jones would take more of the Democratic base voters that Reno needs. I'm curious, as there doesn't seem to be many public polls available for this race.

That would be my guess, Shawn. It could be the other way, though.

Another not so good news for the GOP in South Dakota.

Great news for McBride fans. On his website he has an article on a just released independent poll that show Reno leading only 35-31-5 over McBride and Jones. That's a massive change from the polls having Reno up by 20 to 30 points. Also the number of undecideds like myself is enormous. After last nights gubernatorial debate the uncertaintly will only get worse because everybody seems to have done well.

Oh! Forgot. Great news about Pingree in Maine. I think that race will be a nailbiter on election night. I think Pingree has what it takes to win this race, she seems very impressive.
And I am quite shocked but pleased to see Janklow behind in South Dakota. Herseth is another very impressive Democratic female candidate and she might just be one of this years David's against Goliath Janklow. How sweet for Tom Daschle if he ia able to engineer a victory for Tim Johnson over Thune and also help in the defeat of a potential election rival in Gov. Janklow.

The results in SD would depend greatly on whether the drought continues to persist and Bush continues to deny aid.
Posted by G.C. Raj @ 08/28/2002 10:44 AM PST
Saw the SD poll. To be honest I don't think it's quite as shocking as some might. Herseth is young, energetic, a rather pretty woman-she represents the future; Janklow is old, bloated-the past-and maybe I'm wrong, but after four terms as Governor, and 16 years after almost getting elected to the Senate, running for the House seems kind of pathetic.
As for Florida, that poll is very encouraging, and Governor McBride is looking like more and more of a reality-I think the world of Janet Reno, but she can't beat Jeb, while McBride can. I see a lot of parellels in this race to the Senate race in NY in '98, with McBride as Chuck Schumer to Reno's Geraldine Ferarro and Jeb's Al D'Amato-I can only hope for the same end result.

Poll with Collins ahead 46-39 percent was a Democratic poll. Nice try. Partisan polls are bunk. And if a Democratic poll has Pingree behind, that doesn't bode too well for her chances.
How come the poll is a dead link? And Zogby International is as reliable as it gets.
Go ahead and nominate McBride. Whatever. Jeb will cream either one of them. He actually has a BIGGER LEAD over McBride, there are just more undecided voters in that matchup.
"Don't fall into the trap, Democrats are full of crap!"

A clarification...on the second line of my post, I am referring to the Arkansas Senate race.
Maybe it is a legit poll. But NP polls can occasionally be bunk too. Like the one that had Allard ahead by 16 or the one that had the Illinois governor's race tied.
Posted by RWG @ 08/28/2002 12:20 PM PST
All partisan polls are bunk. Be it Tarrance for the GOP or be it Lake, Snell and Perry. An independent poll in Arkansas conducted by a TV station has Pryor ahead by 10. I am not able to get to the link. But, it is in the newspapers. However, I do wish that reliable polling firms such as Mason-Dixon conduct more polls. They have abdicated their civic duty and the vacuum has been filled by fraudulent pollsters from both parties such as Lake and Goeas.

Nothing bunk about this....

RWG, what I do with partisan polls for BOTH sides is subtract 4 points from the party who the poll was done for and give it to the other party. Thus, Collins' 46-39 lead becomes 50-35. That is STILL a marked improvement from the 49-20 a month ago, better than the last Lake-Snell-Perry poll in June.
For House Races, it's 6 points, and for Governor's races, it's 5 points. So, in IA-4, where Congressman Latham faces John Norris, a Tarrance group poll that had Latham up 57-25 turns to 51-31.
Posted by Mr. Liberal @ 08/28/2002 02:01 PM PST
Hey, Vlajos, thanks for the article. Among other things, it showed Governor Huckabee leading Jimme-Lou Fisher by 49-42. That's equal to another poll earlier in the year (non-partisan)that had Huckabee leading 43-36.
In New Jersey news, Scott Garrett's campaign has used hit below the beltline with a negative attack on Sumers, criticizing her patriotism and her support for Israel. This is because of a forum posting by Sumers in 2000 at an International Aghan Forum for people who had previously lived in Afhganistan (Sumers did as a teenager, when her father worked there). Here is what Sumers said:
October 13, 2000 Posting Unedited
I am enjoying everyone's memories! We were in Kabul during the moon landing, and it seemed utterly unreal and impossible, surrounded by donkey herds carrying bricks, and jui dogs, and those poor skinny horses pulling carts, to look up and imagine astronauts on the moon. Speking of near-death experiences, by the way, I think my brother Rick Ricks and all of you in his roving motorcycle gang had a major death wish; he wiped out doing some sort of acrobatics on someone else's major motorcycle (he had more of a scooter), and tore his leg up, and you guys (George Earhardt, Marty Owens, et al) just moved your raucous cheerful party into his bedroom to help him recover. (Some of our nostalgia is for lost Afghanistan, and some of it is for our youth, which is just as lost. Still, I'd love to go back-AND STAY THERE, I THINK!). By the way, on a topical note: has anyone noticed that Israel is going to hell in a handbasket, and WWW III may be getting underway?
Anne Ricks Sumers
Now, the Garrett team added a line in that was not previously there, which is in bold. Also, considering that the war between Israel and the Palestinians was in full ignition mode in October 2000 (with the Cole sinking and all), her comments are reasonable, if not popular. Garrett uses those lines to claim that Sumers is hostile towards Israel, and a friend of the Palestinians. This is Sumers' response:
August 23, 2002
My opponent has decided to engage in the politics of destruction. He feels that rather than face up to his voting record in the Assembly, he should cast wild and unfounded accusations. While we generally ignore his wild accusations, he is now engaging in the hurtful exercise of “race politics”.
Scott Garrett and his supporters have distributed a portion of an e-mail I wrote in an effort to cast me as anything but Pro-Israel and insinuate that I may be Anti-Semitic. Nothing could be further from the truth.
My husband had relatives including his great grandparents who were murdered during the Holocaust. I have raised my two boys to understand and respect their rich Jewish heritage. We as a family have visited Israel and have witnessed first hand the challenges they face in protecting and securing their people. My family has proudly supported the United Jewish Appeal (UJA) for more than a decade.
At this critical point in Israel’s history, it is unfortunate that Scott Garrett would attempt to gain politically through such destructive and divisive methods. We should stand united behind Israel, our friend and ally, not divided.
Scott Garrett should apologize and cease this behavior.
(Sorry about the length, but there's no link for it, so I had to reproduce it in full)
I hope Dr. Sumers kick's Scott Garrett's a** across the district.
In other news, Tim Carden, who's running against Mike Ferguson in my district, got the endorsement of the UNITE Labor group in the district. Congressman Mike Honda is coming to help campaign with Tim, along with representatives from many Asian-American groups in New Jersey.
