It looks like Mr. Liberal has a chance at getting his upset with Henry over Orza.

Good Evening, everyone. Did any of you get 6 hours of homework a night? Now I know what you felt...
Anyway, I'm hoping that Henry's lead over Orza holds, and that O'Brien can stave off Birmingham's second place-and-rising numbers.
Here's the returns with 8% in:
O'Brien-34%
Birmingham-26%
Reich-20%
Tolman-19%
Grossman-1%
Posted by Mr. Liberal @ 09/17/2002 06:21 PM PST
Shannon P. O'Brien 47,053 - 33%
Thomas F. Birmingham 35,619 - 25%
Robert B. Reich 33,160 - 23%
Warren E. Tolman 25,472 - 18%
Steven Grossman 1,345 - 1%
If trends keep up....It will be between Reich and O'Brien

In Oklahoma, with 78% in, David Walters has defeated Tom Boettetcher, by a 57-43 margin. The victory has been called by Channel Oklahoma, ABC news for OK City.
78% in,
Henry-53
Orza-47
Henry's lead is getting bigger as the night progresses (if slightly). The trend would be towards a 5-6 point Henry victory.

WARREN TOLMAN 46,924 18%
THOMAS BIRMINGHAM 65,332 25%
SHANNON O'BRIEN 86,918 33%
STEVEN GROSSMAN 2,319 1%
ROBERT REICH 63,175 24%
Reich has been inching up all night
Does anyone know if the big cities have been counted or what???

Any news on Healey-Rappaport?
Good to hear about Walters holding off Boettcher. Now we can focus on the real objective-ridding the Senate of Jim Hooky Inhofe.

KOTV-Tulsa has called for Henry.

Man,Mass must be a pretty monolithic state.Doesnt matter if youve counted 5% or 50% so far, everybody seems to be voting the same.
That means Reich wont win, which makes me VERY sad,but hopefully he closes a 10% gap,33%-23% now.Hell,Ill take Birmingham I guess but he is 8% behind O Brian.Romney wins!
Only good news is that this confirms the GOP will never win a seat in MASS,there just arent any conservative enclaves left.Funny(scratch:SAD) though that in a liberal state,we will have 2 conservatives(Romney and O Brian)facing off.

Healey is killing Rappaport 2-1 at this point (64 - 36)

not sure where the results are from, but that may not make any difference in this race

How is O'Brien a conservative?
Posted by AVADem @ 09/17/2002 07:14 PM PST
Mitt will face O'Brien and gets his wish running mate - Kerry Murphy Healey - both have just been declared the winners by the AP.

I expected more anti-establishment here in MA. The economy is sucking utterly. But the few state reps and state sens who had competitive races won with big margins.
O'Brien was endorsed by the evil speaker of the house and won. The reform candidates got trampled. Reich could have done better but his ads were bad.
I wonder if this has implications for the national mood of the country, basically not able to pin the blame for the economy on anybody in particular.

O Brian has held conservative views on almost every issue you can think of.She switched on the "important issues"(DLCs version of important)like abortion and guns, but anyway I just hope she doesnt win a Senate seat in the future.Reich better put his passions up for election when Kerry or Kennedy steps down.
I also worry Romney could get popular if he wins, and thus be a prime prospect for replacing Kennedy in the future.
Its a lose lose situation here.

I am disappointed Reich lost. The last few months proved he can't campaign.
Disappointed that Rappaport didn't win as well. This would have made it much easier on the Dem ticket to have an enemy in Mitt's camp.
Guess I'll vote for Shannon now.
You're right Eric - no anti-establishment vote here.

Just say no to Rommney!
Posted by Deborah @ 09/17/2002 07:52 PM PST
I wouldn't worry too much about either of them moving to the Senate. With all 10 Democratic Congressmen-and of those, 3 under 50 and 3 more shy of 55 (only Frank and Olver are over 60)-filling the seat should be no problem-and anyway, Teddy has laready said he's running again in '06.

I can't beleive Orza lost. I thought he had it! Congrats to Mr. Liberal for calling it right!

I just realized the link I posted is unoffical so they might still be counting. But it looks like they counted up all the votes already in OK.

This is the second time Ozra has lost in a run-off. His first was in 1990 as a Republican and now here in 2002 as a Democrat. I am shocked he lost. Does anyone think Henry has a chance to beat Largent?

I'd say, from looking around the scene in this state, Marty Meehan is the next Bay Stater elected to the Senate. And things are looking pretty good for O'Brien at the moment- she did some adept political manouvering last night (challenged Romney to weekly debates among other things) and yet did the Irish Lass role to perfection.
My guess polls will show her and Romney in the low 40s in the next ten days. It'll be grueling but she should have a 5-10% cushion by election day.

In case it hasn't been posted yet I checked Mcbride's Site and it has been announced that State Senator Tom Rossin is Mcbride's Lt. Governor Pick! What a shocker he's from my district! Jebs a gonner; Mcbride's doing everything right so far!
http://www.mcbride2002.com/
Look for Mcbride to reopen the wounds of redistricting and cut further into Jebs lead. Collier County wasn't to happy about being thrown together with Dade- With Rossin on the ticket Jeb Fans might look the other way or vote Mcbride to get even.
