Tennessee Senate Contest

Traces of a potential melt-down are occurring in the TN US Senate race. In what first looked like a walk-away landslide developing, Alexander's not been able to put Clement away; and this is bizarre:

As Alexander walked to his car, shaking hands, he took the hand of a man Chandler identified as Paul Shelby Hunton, 27, of Murfreesboro. "Somehow, when Mr. Alexander shook hands with him, (Hunton) slipped him one of those bogus dollar bills," the chief said. "And somehow, when that happened, they got into a hand-squeezing contest."

Clement's campaign has been distributing imitation dollar bills carrying the words "in greed we trust" in reference to what Clement characterizes as Alexander's "sweetheart deals," including one where a $1 investment turned into a $260,000 profit.

"The officers on the scene did separate them in a hurry because they didn't know what was going on," he said. Hunton had a visibly swollen finger afterwards, Chandler said, and requested that an "incident report" be filed.

Chandler was pretty stupid to get into a handshaking contest with a long-term politician. Alexander though, looks even more stupid; having to be separated by police, wow. Early voting turnout in TN are at record levels. The latest poll does show that this is a very close race.

The Tennessee Poll in October found 45 percent of registered voters surveyed will vote for Alexander, the same percentage in a similar poll conducted in September. Clement had nearly 33 percent of the votes, an increase of 6 percent, from the earlier poll, while 16 percent were not sure, or 4 percent fewer than in September. There's a lot of undecideds, and they are mostly Democrats. SUSA, fwiw, polls the race at Alexander leading Clement by a 49-45 margin.
