Heads Rollin' Time

The Democrats lost a couple of close ones; yet, even bigger, lost Wellstone, and that tragic death, or rather the response, seemed to change the whole dynamic of the election. The Wellstone death motivated a few Democrats, but the Mondale appointment motivated even more Republicans.

Then, I argued the case for Alan Page as Successor to Wellstone: ....Mondale is the DFL of the past, he has a lot of baggage; sure, he's a commendable liberal voice, but not what the Democrats in MN need in the wake of Paul Wellstone. The DFL needs a transformative forward looking action that propels Wellstone's progressive voice much further into the future than having a mere placeholder...

And that proved to be the turning point of this election. You only needed to turn into rightwing AM radio shows that week to understand the motivation that was ongoing, nationwide, in response to the demonizing of the Wellstone memorial, and the backward-looking nomination of Mondale.

Mondale was a voice of the past, The Emerging Democratic Majority is encapsulated by people like Alan Page. The national leaders of the Democratic Party are not stepping into that majority, so those voters do not come to the polls. The Democrats offered 1984 again, and got the same response.

2004 will be different, Bush will be defeated.
