Iraqi Inspections & Bush Bombs

Hans Blix's report to the United Nations:

We now have eight helicopters. They have already proved invaluable in helping to "freeze" large sites by observing the movement of traffic in and around the area.

Setting up a field office in Mosul has facilitated rapid inspections of sites in northern Iraq. We plan to establish soon a second field office in the Basra area, where we have already inspected a number of sites.

Mr. [UN] President, we have now an inspection apparatus that permits us to send multiple inspection teams every day all over Iraq, by road or by air. Let me end by simply noting that that capability which has been built-up in a short time and which is now operating, is at the disposal of the Security Council.

The UN Iraq inspection tour appears to be now set-up for an even more comprehensive search of Iraq; given this, what would the Bush-led rush toward invasion accomplish?

The Smirking Chimp has something to say about 'Bush's biggest lie and dirtiest little secret':

We know Bush is lying, and we know his dirty little secret. So what can we do to stop him? Everything in our power. The United States of America is about to take a great big vote on who we are, and what we stand for. Are we warmongers, who invade other countries whenever we wish and threaten them with nuclear weapons? (Notice I didn't employ the euphemism "pre-emptive" once in that sentence.) Or are we a peace-loving people, who only strike back when we've been attacked? This country was founded on the idea that we're a force for peace, for liberty, for humanity, and against rogue nations who invade other nations just because their bully-boy leaders demand it.

I just wish we would get this overwith. I am not sure what we are waiting for. The inspectors could be there for 10 years and they will not find anything. The country is too big and they don't know the place as well as Saddam. Whether you support the war or not, it is going to happen. Lets just get it over and done.

"Lets just get it over and done."

Sounds like high school girls that can't wait to lose their virginity.

This is a war I remind you.

AC, what are we waiting for? Why don't we just accept that Bush is Dictator For Life and move on? That makes about as much sense.

This is the first open war of conquest in US history. The closest we came before was the Spanish-American War and even then there was the fig leaf of the USS Maine.

If the inspectors find WMD it proves Saddam has been cheating. If they don't find them, it is also evidence of cheating? Hence the criterion for cheating is that Bush says so? He has proof that maybe he will show in a couple of weeks? Waiting for the ink to dry, maybe?

With this action, the US joins Nazi Germany, the USSR and Fascist Italy in history.

The problem I have with inspections is that unless Iraq tells the inspectors where to find the WMD then the goal is impossible. Let me explain it this way. If I tell you and 100 people that I have hidden a 10 pound bag of sugar in my house, There is a good chance you and/or 100 people still couldn't find where I hid the bag. If I told you I hid the bag in one of the houses on my street (12 houses) I could almost guarantee you could never find it. If I said I hid it somewhere in my city, then I could be reasonably certain you would never find the bag of sugar I hid...if I said I hid it somewhere in my state, then I could guarantee you that you would never find the 10 pound bag of sugar that I've hidden. Inspections are not going to work. We need to either go to war or contain Iraq as we have for 12 years. This is where the argument should be. The whole world KNOWS Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, the question should be what should we do about it. To say the inspectors must prove Iraq doesn't have WMD makes us look totally foolish.

Since you cut and pasted your reply from the thread above, I will do the same.

"I said I hid it somewhere in my state, then I could guarantee you that you would never find the 10 pound bag of sugar that I've hidden."

Which is bigger, a bag of sugar or a nuclear weapons program?

"The whole world KNOWS Iraq has weapons of mass destruction"

Whoa, when did this happen. Last I checked, we know nothing of the sort.

I understand people here are against the war. However, I am just telling you that it is going to happen anyway. The sooner the better.

This is the mindset of the right? That Mr. Bush said there's gonna be a war so darn tootin' there's gonna be a war. No good reason needed. Nope, we're 'muricans. Don't need a good reason.

No wonder this country is in deep, deep trouble. The lives of hundreds or thousands of people (Americans included; and I'm counting "homeland" Americans put at risk by those bent on revenge for unprovoked U.S. aggression)are not worth even attempting to put the brakes on a deadly PR stunt? Astounding.
